See this oddity, along with subterranean living quarters including a bedroom, patios, and passageways at the Forestiere Underground Gardens. This California State Historical Landmark was dug, chipped, and carved by one man over 40 years.

FRESNO CHAFFEE ZOO
Take a seat and enjoy a show at one of the area’s many theaters, stroll through the Shinzen Friendship Garden, peruse the plethora of farmers’ markets, or hunt for antiques and locally made goods in Old Town Clovis. Settle back in a local cafe or feast at a farm-to-table restaurant. The Fresno County art scene is a brilliant reflection of the area’s diverse population, rich in culture. Meet local artists both wellknown and those just starting to discover their talent at ArtHop (taking place the first and third Thursday of each month). Visit the Fresno Art Museum, browse eclectic galleries, watch live art demonstrations, or

visit one of the area’s cultural museums like Arte Americas or the African-American Historical Museum of the San Joaquin Valley. Feed a giraffe, touch a stingray, and watch sea lions dive underwater at the Fresno Chaffee Zoo. Check out its several new state-of-the-art exhibits. Later stop to chow down on a hotdog at Chukchansi Park as you watch the Fresno Grizzlies score. You may even strike a homerun of exploding entertainment by catching one of the season’s firework shows after the game.

Ever wonder what it’s like to tour Air Force One? Have the opportunity to sit in the aircraft used by Presidents Raegan and Clinton, as well as several VP’s and First Ladies. See a massive collection of planes dating back to pre-WWII to present— stretched across the museum’s 25 acres. Also visit the indoor museum on the grounds to see its collection of war-time memorabilia. Located in Atwater, Castle Air Museum is one of the largest aviation museums on the West Coast!

Explore the history of Clovis through a wide assortment of antiques and relics from as early as the late 19th century in the Clovis Museum located in Old Town Clovis. Take a step back in time and walk the halls of the turn-of-the-century home of M.Theo Kearney, the agricultural pioneer known as the “Raisin King”. The estate is located on the expansive 225-acre Kearney Park. Enjoy a festive holiday tour at the mansion during December, or check out one of the historically-themed events taking place on the estate throughout the year. There is a little (or a lot!) of something for everyone with an all-you-can-eat buffet stocked with freshly-made food ranging from a wide selection of pizza and fried chicken to desserts. Find a new slice of fun around every corner, with games to win big, thrilling rides like the Boogie Bump bumper cars, Laser Tag or bowling at Thunder Alley. Even the littlest ones can climb and slide on a playground for toddlers in Kiddie Land. There is incredible fun for everyone!
Fresno County Horse Park
Sitting on 140 acres of land on the southern bank of the San Joaquin River, the Horse Park is treasured by equestrians and horse enthusiasts both near and far. Check the Horse Park’s event calendar posted on its website to find its next dressage show or 3 Day Event (free for spectators to attend).
With a little bit of imagination, quickthinking and teamwork, you and your squad can experience an array of unique adventures ranging from finding hidden treasure to solving murders. Participants are placed in a themed room and work together to solve puzzles and detect clues in order to escape in a set amount of time.
No Surrender is a colossal, action-packed, indoor theme park. It includes Mission Based Laser Tag played in 17,000 square feet of multi-level space; an adventure course for ages 1 to 14, with trampolines, ball pits and basketball hoops; a ropes course, and an arcade with traditional and virtual reality games!

Shinzen Friendship Garden
Perhaps there is no better place in Fresno County to witness the change in seasons, than Shinzen Friendship Garden. The pristinely-landscaped gardens offer an array of gorgeous natural views to admire from Ume Grove to the Koi pond beneath Double Moon Bridge, to the amazing reflection of colors seen on the surface of Woodward Lake. The Clark Bonsai Collection located within the Garden, offers its own unique experience, honoring the historical Japanese art forms.

Storyland & Playland
Enter lands made just for play and lively fairytale encounters. In Storyland walk through an enchanting castle, see Alice in Wonderland, Mother Goose and many more characters. Ride the Express Train through both parks with lots to discover along the way. From the carousel to Wonder Wheel, Playland is packed with thrills for every age.
Fresno Discovery Center
The interactive museum located on a park-like setting offers children (and adults!) endless opportunities for handson learning. See live animals in the Reptile Room, touch and tinker with several interactive displays, and examine Native American basketry as well as other artifacts up-close. Take a stroll through the Deutsch Cactus Garden, home to over 250 different kinds of cactuses and succulents. Be sure to meet the huge dinosaurs in front of the museum!
The Tower District
The Tower District is Fresno’s dining, arts, and entertainment district. The Tower’s character is set by a close-knit community and a wide variety of businesses. Restaurants, cafes, nightclubs, performing arts venues, theaters, galleries, bakeries, delis, plus a unique blend of specialty retail establishments are all within walking distance of each other, and most are locally–owned and–operated.
Wonder Valley Ranch
Wonder Valley Ranch Resort & Conference Center is a gorgeous all-inclusive resort located in the Sanger foothills just 35 minutes from Fresno’s airport. Its picturesque location is perfect for weddings, retreats, conferences, picnics,

Yosemite Mountain Sugar Pine Railroad

Have your pick of which narrated journey you will take. Choose from a one-hour or 30-minute trip in daylight, or the Moonlight Train Ride and BBQ adventure. The scenic excursion offers one-of-a-kind views through the Sierra National Forest, close by the southern entrance of Yosemite National Park.
San Joaquin River Parkway & Conservation Trust, Inc.
The San Joaquin River’s magnificence is preserved by the conservation efforts of the River Parkway Trust, which also provides education and recreation opportunities to enjoy the river. Stop by the River Center on the weekend to engage with exhibits, take advantage of one of the many recreational opportunities, or attend one of the lively events held by the Parkway.

Fresno Chaffee Zoo
Experience the wild side of Fresno County when you visit Fresno Chaffee Zoo. The zoo is home to 190 species and state-of-the-art exhibits. African Adventure is a 13-acre, naturalistic mixed species exhibit featuring lions, elephants, cheetahs, white rhinos, and a giraffe feeding station. Touch the rays in the Stingray Bay and journey to the California Coast at Sea Lion Cove–one of the most unique and beautiful sea lion exhibits in the country.

The San Joaquin River prominently flows through Fresno County as an important source of irrigation water for the famously rich and abundant farmland in the central valley. With the conservation efforts of the San Joaquin River Parkway and Conservation Trust, Inc., there are abounding opportunities to enjoy the river, whether choosing to partake in a water sport, discovering surrounding wildlife on a nature walk, or simply admiring its beauty.

Shaver and Huntington Lakes
Find Shaver Lake and Huntington Lake northeast to Fresno and Clovis in the Sierra Nevada. Arrive at Shaver within an hour from the Fresno/Clovis area. Jet ski, canoe, water ski, wakeboard, or round up your friends and family for a good time of relaxing on a pontoon boat. If you don’t have your own, the area is stocked with businesses renting boats and other water sport equipment. To reach Huntington Lake from Shaver, take a 45-minute drive through the mountains and upon your arrival see the crisp, blue water and unbelievable views of the Sierra. Huntington is a lake-lovers haven to enjoy favorite water sports. For those who choose to enjoy the water from land, surrounding areas of both lakes are favored hiking destinations with excessive beauty to take in along a plethora of trails.
In Sequoia and Kings Canyon National Parks
Exclusively within the boundaries of Sequoia and Kings Canyon National Parks lay more than 3,000 lakes and ponds, along with 2,600 miles of rivers and streams. Among the most popular water bodies in Kings Canyon include Rae Lakes (the Rae Lakes Loop serves as a popular hiking trail) and most prominent—the Kings River. The Kings River runs throughout the park and is popular for fishing, kayaking and rafting (certain areas of the river are safer for sporting than others). Dependent upon the snowmelt, spring and early summer are the best times for recreational enjoyment. There are also several waterfalls in Kings Canyon National Park, including Grizzly Falls (with a picnic area) and Mist Falls (tucked deeper in the backcountry).

The world-renowned views of Yosemite National Park are infamous for the steep granite cliffs, tremendous stretches of land filled with giant trees, and majestic waterfalls. From Glacier Point, see unearthly views of iconic landmarks like Yosemite Valley, Half Dome and Yosemite Falls (accessible by car late May through November). Explore the park to see other landmarks like El Capitan, Bridalveil Falls and the gorgeous Tuolumne Meadows.

A national park favorite for many national park lovers, Kings Canyon is treasured for its less-traveled, serene stretches of unbelievable and widely varied landscapes, with giant sequoias, crystal clear waters, green meadows, steep cliffs, and not to mention arguably the deepest canyon in the nation. Must-sees include Cedar Grove, Zumwalt Meadow, Roaring River Falls, Mist Falls, and the second-largest tree in the world, the General Grant Tree. General Grant stands 267 feet tall and has a base of nearly 29 feet. Known as the Nation’s Christmas Tree, there is a ceremony, “Trek to the Nation’s Christmas Tree” held by the Sanger District Chamber of Commerce each year on the second Sunday in December to honor this natural wonder.

Sequoia National Park
Home to the largest known living single-stem tree by volume, the General Sherman Tree, Sequoia National Park is nothing short of extraordinary. In the Giant Forest, see the General Sherman, and stand amongst several other of the world’s largest trees. Climb 400 steps up the granite dome to the summit of Moro Rock, and see the peaks of the Great Western Divide, foothills and San Joaquin Valley to the west and deep wilderness to the east. The park includes even more unique features, like Crystal Cave, the Tunnel Log and the Giant Forest Museum.

With a driving path of more than 60 miles, and an explosion of fluttering petals in awe-inspiring shades of pink and white, the wondrous trail draws travelers from all over the globe. Exact timing of the Fresno County Blossom Trail is dependent upon each winter’s weather, however it typically begins the end of February and wraps up by early April. In celebration of this magical scene, there are bunches of festivals and special events, including a 10k and the Kings River Blossom Trail Bike Ride. The celebration continues into October during The Big Fresno Fair, with the Blossom Trail Art showing. Choose to take selfies or professional family photos with an almost make-believe backdrop, walk through the ocean of color, sit back and enjoy the leisurely drive with nothing but petals in sight, or enjoy the view from one of the several stops along the trail—including Simonian Farms, School House Restaurant & Tavern, Circle K Ranch, or Hillcrest Farm.

Approximately one-fifth of the total wine grapes grown in California are grown in Fresno County. This makes the area one of California’s top destinations for wine lovers, with about one dozen wineries along the Fresno County Wine Journey (also including two breweries and a distillery). Winter Sports
When the Sierra Nevada welcome snow fall, many jump at the opportunity to enjoy the destination’s fresh powder on skis or snowboard. China Peak, near Shaver Lake, is a local hotspot for hitting the slopes. Offering 1,700 feet of vertical and exhilarating views of the High Sierra, there are opportunities for snow-goers with skill levels at every end of the spectrum. To experience something slightly less main stream, try a snowshoeing walk through Sequoia & Kings Canyon National Parks! CLOVIS Known as the “Gateway to the Sierras”, Clovis is a city where visitors can find eclectic shops, farm-to-table dining selections, and the western-themed Old Town. Cycling, hiking and jogging trails encircle Clovis making it the perfect spot for outdoor enthusiasts. Springtime brings the century-old Rodeo to town and the summer months bring out the Friday Night Farmers Market with live music and dozens of food and produce vendors. Feel the charming spirit of the town at one of its many community festivals including Big Hat Days, ClovisFest, and many antique and collectibles fairs.
COALINGA Celebrating its centennial in 2006, Coalinga is one of the few cities in California that began as a mining boomtown. The R.C. Baker Memorial Museum with exceedingly positive reviews from travelers, features many local historic exhibits that feature everything from an extensive fossil collection to American Indian artifacts and antiquated oil-field equipment. The city is vibrant with community events held year-round, including the Hot Air Balloon Festival and the Horned Toad Derby held Memorial Day weekend where you can enjoy a carnival, parade, and family-friendly activities.
FOWLER Fowler is home to some of the Valley’s most well-known produce packing facilities. The downtown offers unique shopping and dining—with locally-owned restaurants having a multitude of raving reviews. Experience the magic of Fowler’s small town feels at the weekly farmers market, which reflects the town’s expansive and dense productive farmland.

FRESNO Fresno is the fifth largest city in California and the metropolitan hub of the Central Valley. As an agricultural center for the world, eat the freshest farm-to-table food offered within the city’s thriving culinary scene. Home to California State University Fresno, Fresno offers big city amenities with a small town feel.
KERMAN See miles of pistachio and almond orchards in Kerman as well as many other crops growing in the area. The town has an expansive parks system of more than 47 acres of recreational space. Many retail and dining options are popping up in the area. Try The Den Smokehouse & Brewery and favorites like Cecilia’s Restaurant. Many delightful events are organized by the Kerman Chamber of Commerce throughout the year, such as the Fireworks Extravaganza, Kerman Harvest Festival & Parade and the Pageantry of Lights Christmas Parade.
KINGSBURG A charming Swedish themed town, downtown Kingsburg offers a variety of sensational restaurants, cafés and specialty shops including Svensk Butik Gift Shop. The shop is packed floor to ceiling with Scandinavian items, as well as some locally sourced goods. The town holds the well-known Swedish Festival each year and an incandescent Santa Lucia Festival. Visit downtown Kingsburg during the holidays and see the town’s massive Christmas tree in the center of Draper Street, while you procure one-of-a-kind gifts. Kingsburg Historical Park is a must-see, especially for those traveling with little ones. Be sure to check out the water tower shaped like a Swedish coffee pot!

REEDLEY The scenic Kings River winds through Reedley, creating a natural beach and beautiful park areas. The river also allows for ample recreational opportunities, including water skiing, boating, swimming and fishing. It’s a stop along the Fresno County Blossom Trail—with Hillcrest Farm offering beautiful views of the blossoms from its Blossom Trail Train operating on the farm. Reedley has a thriving downtown and is home to the restored Reedley Opera House.
SANGER Nestled in the heart of the Blossom Trail and Fruit Trail, the area is concentrated with premium dining options. Sip and see the surroundings while enjoying the many top-notch wineries located here. Trek to the Tree, hosted by the Sanger Chamber of Commerce, is a nationally recognized event, which celebrates the Nation’s Christmas Tree, the General Grant Tree in Kings Canyon National Park.
SELMACOALINGA Selma is known to most as the “Raisin Capital of the World”. Allow your eyes to feast on the vast farmland as you drive Highway 99 and see the vineyards where the raisin crops grow. Stop for a meal at the original Sal’s Mexican Restaurant established in 1942 by a local farmworker— and taste the rich history with every bite of the authentic Mexican food. Selma also has a bustling downtown with the Selma Arts Center offering riveting performances.

In the agricultural-driven towns of Firebaugh, Huron, Mendota, Orange Cove, Parlier and San Joaquin sits farmland with some of the richest soil and most scenic country views-resembling a patchwork quilt when seen from above. BIG FRESNO FAIR
October
Attend the concert of a popular music artist, make your best bet at the live horse races, enjoy free animated entertainment, tour one of the many museums and exhibits, ride the Ferris wheel, play carnival games and eat extraordinary fair food—all within one day! Taking place two weeks each October, with more than 600,000 people passing through its gates, the Big Fresno Fair is the fifth largest fair in California. Several aspects of the massive event reflect Fresno County’s agricultural heritage and farming livelihood. The Agricultural Building showcases incredible produce on displays representing several Fresno County cities, while the Livestock Pavilion allows the opportunity to meet and learn about animals, from cows and sheep to ducks and rabbits! One-of-a-kind events like the Annual Fall Wine Festival and Brew Fest also take place during the fair, featuring dozens of local wines and brews and the valley’s best food trucks!

See massive multi-colored hot air balloons come to life, and float through the sky at the annual ClovisFest & Hot Air Balloon Fun Fly in October. View balloons up-close at the Clovis Rodeo grounds, before they drift off into the air just after sunrise. Following the launch, ClovisFest—spanning 12 city blocks–is just getting started, featuring over 200 craft and commercial booths, live music and performances, the International Village, Beer Garden, and no shortage of enticing food choices.

CLOVIS RODEO
April
A signature Fresno County event, the Clovis Rodeo is the best of country living all wrangled up into one huge occasion. One of the top five rodeos in California, it is part of the ProRodeo/Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association (PRCA) Tour. Events Include Professional Bull Riding, PRCA performances, jackpot roping and celebrity roping events. The rodeo action is accompanied by concerts, rodeo parade, dances, and some of the best tri-tip you’ll ever taste. The Clovis Rodeo is attended by more than 40,000 and takes place the last weekend in April.

The student-run Fresno State event takes place on campus each spring. It is known for the array of vendors selling locally made goods, as well as the live entertainment lineup with performances throughout the day. It is an event for the entire family, as there is something fun for everyone—including Kids Zone, packed with mini adventures like pony rides, inflatables and more! Take advantage of all the photo opportunities to be had with Fresno State mascots, enjoy food and game booths hosted by student organizations or kick back in the beer and wine garden.

HOLIDAY FESTIVITIES Miles of streets brightly lit with sparkling lights, horse-drawn carriage rides, parades, and small town celebrations, make Fresno County a magical place to experience the holidays. The widely popular Christmas Tree Lane in the historic Van Ness Boulevard neighborhood in Fig Garden is a nearly 100-year-old Fresno County tradition. Two miles of homes are intricately decorated for the holidays, with trees and branches arched over the boulevard bejeweled with streams of lights. During the season the historic street is open one-way and closed to traffic two nights during December for “walk-only” nights. Delight in the season while shopping local in Old Town Clovis. Admire the beautifully decorated town while riding in a horse-drawn carriage.

Attend the Downtown Fresno Christmas Parade alongside thousands of merry spectators and watch the marching bands, entertainers, and dozens of floats pass by. See classic small town communities, like Reedley and Kingsburg, join together in charming celebrations with parades, and downtown Christmas tree lighting ceremonies. Perhaps the most notable holiday tradition in Fresno County, is the annual Trek to the Nation’s Christmas Tree hosted by the Sanger District Chamber of Commerce. The General Grant Tree in Kings Canyon National Park, was named the Nation’s Christmas Tree in 1926. The second Sunday of December, a ceremony is held to recognize this natural treasure, with song, prayer, and a wreath placed at the base of the tree.

Amtrak – Arrive in Fresno County stress free with Amtrak San Joaquins. The station offers transportation from distances all over California to bring you straight in to the heart of Fresno in roomy, air-conditioned passenger cars with no middle seat. Enjoy amenities like free parking, Wi-Fi and checked baggage, as well as electrical outlets at every seat, and dining and beverage options. All Amtrak San Joaquins trains are ADA accessible, and service animals are welcome aboard.
